Selling a $25,000 Watch to MODA Watch Group

After 20+ years of collecting wristwatches, I realized I was only wearing a handful in rotation. Like many collectors, I didn’t want to deal with the hassle of listing and waiting for months to sell one.

Recently, I got a Daytona back from service—a piece my wife and I cherished for over a decade—but she decided she no longer wanted it. I reached out to a few local dealers, but none answered. I also contacted several online retailers, but no one was willing to make an offer. This watch is highly desirable, in mint condition, and a true grail for us: a solid yellow gold Daytona on a crocodile strap with a deployment clasp.

A friend of mine had a positive experience buying a Speedy from MODA, so I decided to give them a shot. Since there isn’t much information about selling premium watches to MODA, I wanted to share my experience.

I contacted Linda Moda, who responded almost immediately. I told her I was interested in selling two dozen watches and buying five grails. Her response was enthusiastic: “Great, tell me what you’ve got.” I sent her three photos, and she quickly replied with an offer.

Here’s the pleasant surprise: it was a solid offer—not a lowball. After a bit of back and forth, I accepted Linda’s offer.

I accepted a $20,000 offer.

She sent me a shipping label, and I packed up the Daytona and shipped it the same day. By the next day, I had received payment wire transfer for the price agreed upon. (not “minus shipping” bullshit). The entire process took just three days and about a dozen texts. It was smooth, quick, and hassle-free.

A few favorites. Bonus rubber band straps my daughter made for me.

The goal this year is to sell 20 of my pieces to to into 5 grails watches. I intent to do all of the buying and selling with MODA watch group. I’ll report every transaction here and prices paid/sold. I’ll compare selling/buying prices to grays, trusted dealers and Chrono24.
